Job Description
A fully capable, knowledgeable, and experienced biomedical engineering technologist, the incumbent works independently under minimal supervision. He/she is responsible for daily technical support activities related to equipment and devices used within clinical, allied health, and/or support service departments that are the technologist’s designated areas of responsibility. The individual may also be assigned responsibility outside his/her normally designated areas of responsibility. The incumbent is responsible for the repair, performance assurance, preventive maintenance, and other technical work including: incoming inspection of equipment; broad-based clinical technical support of assigned hospital departments; equipment modification; instrument development; risk management; electrical safety activities; teaching medical and nursing staff; evaluation of equipment; product acquisition; coordination of outside contractors, vendors, agencies and other departments; carrying out Special Service Programs; administrative duties; and CE staff development. The incumbent will interface with internal and external customers to understand and conceptualize requirements, offering creative suggestions to fulfill deliverables. This person will be perceived by customers as an expert in the CE field. The incumbent works directly with a wide variety of health care professionals (physicians, nurses, allied health, support), as well as patients, in the course of his/her duties. The incumbent may be required to test, repair and maintain electromedical and related equipment at other facilities during normal and outside normal working hours. The incumbent carries out all tasks in a manner consistent with accepted departmental programs, policies, guidelines, and practices, and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
