CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITY

List the critical accountability that must be achieved in order that the job purpose is fulfilled.

• the Nursing Superintendent is the in charge of the Nursing Department of the Hospital and will ensure smooth functioning of all the nursing services in the Hospital.

• keeping the administration and the centre unit head informed of all the activities and problems in relation to the care of patients.

• recommending personnel and material requirement for nursing and various nursing service departments of the hospital.

• taking regular rounds of the hospital.

• responsible for high standards of nursing care and behavior towards all patients admitted in the hospital.

• organizing, directing and supervising day, evening and night nursing services for competent nursing care.

• continuously analyze and evaluate the nursing services.

• counseling sub-ordinate staff.

• attending hospital/intra hospital meetings and conferences

• investigating all complaints regarding nursing care and personnel, and submit report to management

• periodically interacts with clinical heads to discuss problems in patient care

• providing awareness regarding cleanliness as part of infection control.

• maintaining personal files of all nursing staff.

• arranging orientation programmes for new nursing staff.

• maintaining discipline among nursing personnel.

• ensuring that care is delivered to each and all patients in accordance with Standards of Clinical Nursing Practices

• ensuring that Nursing staff have to follow the Duty Schedule and have to priorly inform the Nursing superintendent before proceeding to any kind of leave after adjusting the duty with the subordinates.

• ensuring that Nursing staff organize appropriate staff for the shift based on recommended shift staffing levels, discussed with Nursing Superintendent.

• responding to all emergencies within the hospital and initiate the appropriate response. Understand and can implement the appropriate response in dealing with patient problems e.g. deterioration of patient’s clinical condition, dying patients, seriously ill patients and violent patients.

• ensuring that regular patient rounds are conducted during duty hours

• demonstrating ability to identify and solve problems. Utilizes initiatives and sound judgment to reach quality decisions.

• be impartial with subordinates and other staffs

• demonstrating good judgment and analytical ability in preparing work for review

• maintenance of stock registers inventories and check regularly.

• initiating and introducing new ideas and techniques related to patient care and provide necessary equipment/drugs/other material adequate and in working condition
